Cupping Therapy
Information & Policies
What is cupping therapy?
Cupping therapy involves the application of specialized silicone cups to the skin, creating a suction or vacuum effect.
Your session may involve static cupping (cups remaining in one place) and/or dynamic cupping (cups moved across the skin) as will be negotiated with the practitioner.
Cupping therapy is intended to help address muscle tension, pain, restricted movement, and promote relaxation and circulation.
Temporary Marks
It is common for cupping to leave temporary circular marks, discoloration, or 'hickey-like' bruising on the skin where the cups were applied. These marks are a normal part of the process, typically indicate increased blood flow to the area, and usually fade within a few days to two weeks, though in rare cases, they may last longer.
Static cupping has a higher likelihood of leaving noticeable marks. While dynamic cupping has a significantly lower incidence of leaving marks, it does not guarantee that no marks will occur. Any skin sensitivity can lead to discoloration.
Service Changes
The client is encouraged to inform the therapist immediately if they experience any discomfort or adverse reactions during the session so adjustments can be made.
If a client decides to discontinue the cupping therapy mid-session, or if the therapist deems their condition unfit, the client can choose another service to fill the remainder of the session time or end the session early. Full payment for the session is required regardless of which option is chosen.
Home Care
The therapist may provide home care recommendations, such as staying hydrated, applying ice, avoiding extreme heat, and doing gentle movement.
Following these recommendations can help optimize the benefits and minimize potential side effects (e.g. mild discomfort, tenderness, aching).
